Automobiles in German Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were notified by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located many other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.

A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
